A few weeks ago I made my first ever skirt and it was so easy!
I literally, just had to cut 2 rectangles and sew them together, add elastic for the waistband and hem up the bottom.
The pattern is by Dana from Made Everyday. I followed one of her videos called How to Sew a Pencil Skirt in 20 minutes.
You can find the tutorial I used here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMgYK0TgajU&list=PLSCF3Ro7iAmRVvmWIQGhuh_Vr4FXlN0OJ&index=4
I had some stretchy knit mustard yellow fabric to use up – I bought 2 metres but only ended up just using over half I think and I bought it from my local fabric store.
It fits! It is a little tight and I am a little overweight lol but when I finally get around to losing that pound or 10 then it will be perfect!!
I haven’t worn it out yet (much to cold for a thin skirt) and I had to modify the pattern slightly, I had to taper it more at the bottom just so it didn’t balloon out a bit but overall for my first skirt I am quite pleased with the result.

I am still a beginner at sewing so don’t judge the slight wonkiness of the stitches…but overall not bad I’d say!
Follow the link and have a go yourself…you’ll be surprised how easy it is to do! 🙂 x

It looks fab. I’ve bookmarked the video! Very much a beginner sewist to but lots of plans for up cycling the chest of drawers of old clothes I have.

I love that fabric – might need to see if they’ve still got any (post-lockdown when I can visit!)

Yes! I haven’t been in Boyes for a bit, they seem to have sold out of all the good stuff right before Christmas and didn’t re-stock 😦 I have enough tiny scraps to make a headband and maybe a bigger something with the bigger scraps…so many possibilities of making goodies…x
