Crochet Blanket Finished

I haven’t done much crafting in the past few weeks. I’ve been busy doing other things!

But, I finally managed to get something off my hook. It was the easiest pattern I had on the go as I didn’t need to look at a pattern, being only a simple Granny Square Blanket. I didn’t have to think about what I was doing, I just carried on crocheting!

I used up spare yarn, 1 x blue ball and 2 x pink balls of STYLECRAFT SPECIAL DK, which you can get here from The Knitting Network, if you’re so inclined. I used 2 x 1435 Bright Pink and I can’t remember the blue colour (but it was a nice bright, almost neon shade).

It’s not huge and I still have a bit of each colour left, I just didn’t think there was enough to go another round in each colour!

So, those scraps have now been added to my scraps bag and I’m almost at the point where I’ll have enough DK weight yarn to make a blanket completely out of scraps. Yay!

Not sure what to do with this one, maybe I’ll donate it again to Knit For Peace or a similar charity once I have a few to go in a box together.

The colours look all blown out with the lighting, but they are actually quite bright in real life.

I agree, it’s not very big! But it can be a pram blanket or even a doll’s blanket!

I can’t help thinking how gorgeous this would look as a cushion…maybe I’ll have to look into that!

Crochet Baby Blanket- Finished Object

This is my first finished piece of the year. And it’s just a simple Granny Square blanket!

I was trying to use up some spare baby wool I had lying about and I used 2 colours of the same type of yarn. You can’t really tell though as it’s all variegated. It looks alright, if I do say so myself!

But everyone I know who has a baby has already received a blanket from me! So, this one is going to charity I think.

I started it and did most of it (until it got too big) at work on my break! So, I feel like I’ve done something productive in otherwise wasted hours…I know, I know, it’s not all about the productivity, but this was something to keep me sat at the table and feel like I was doing something, rather than just scrolling on my phone all the time!

Anyway…here it is draped over my desk chair!

I used a 4mm hook and maybe 5 1/2 balls of wool? I can’t remember the exact amount but it was about that and I lobe how it turned out!

Now, I just need to find a local baby donation centre to give it to, but I think I’m going to hold on to it a while and make a few other things with spare yarn too!

It’s been living in my knitting projects bag for the last few weeks (oh the irony-it’s not knitting, it’s crochet!) which incidentally you can get here in my Society 6 shop or the same design here in my RedBubble shop.

I think I might make a separate post about print on demand products I’ve designed and bought to do with crafting because there’s quite a few!

Crochet Granny Square Trivet

This is a simple in-between project that I whipped up in no time.

It’s a granny square trivet with a border of treble crochet (double crochet if you use US terms).

I used 2 balls held double. It’s a recycled aran weight yarn but I held them double as it’s really thin, almost like a DK weight. It’s a mix of wool, acrylic, polyamide and viscose.

It’s called Forest by King Cole. You can get it here in quite a few shades from The Knitting Network (affiliate link).

I did 2 granny squares and then crocheted them together around the edge. It’s quite chunky and only 1 granny square would have done.

But there are quite a few holes with this type of pattern…so I thought if I did 2 layers, then it would absorb some of the heat. I don’t know…I was just desperate to get some of the yarn used up. It’s been in my stash a good few months!

Christmas Crochet Blanket

A finished object – woo hoo!

It is done. Finished. Completed. All the ends woven in and everything!

I started this at the end of last year with the last scraps of 2020’s Christmas knits.

Typically, there wasn’t quite enough to finish it in one go, so I waited until now to buy a couple more balls of yarn to finish it off.

It’s not the biggest blanket I’ve ever made, but it’s certainly one of the prettier ones! And so festive!

It’s a simple Granny Square pattern. The old ones are the best!

I really like the colours of this one. But, as I have loads of homemade blankets already, I think I’m going to donate this one to charity somewhere. I’ve already donated to Knit For Peace in the past, so this time I think I’ll have a look at Woolly Hugs.

They send blankets to UK hospitals, both to maternity wards and for older children and teenagers too.

Here is what it looks like as a finished object.

It’s difficult to get an idea of the true size, but I’d say it was just over a metre squared.

I really love it and it’s not immediately obvious that I used two different kinds of red yarn!

Weekend WIPs

It’s 9:30pm on Monday and I haven’t posted anything.

Not the most terrible thing to notice, except I’m trying to post every day in August…so this is my ARGH I HAVEN’T POSTED ANYTHING post!

This weekend I found a crochet Christmas blanket I started at the end of last year, just as a way to use up some spare yarn. As is always the case in such projects, I didn’t have enough to finish, so I had to buy more.

The yarn came on Friday and I’ve done a few rounds already – it’s getting bigger so the rounds take longer. You can read where I got the yarn from in the previous post here:

I Found Cheap Yarn!

Here is what the blanket looks like so far. It looks pretty good!

And I’ve also been doing more on my cross stitch project which is also using up spare threads and whatever fabric I had leftover from previous projects.

I don’t know if you can tell what progress I’ve made from previous posts, but I’ve definitely hit the halfway point now.

It’s just random stripes. No pattern!

So that’s what I’ve been up to this weekend craft-wise. Alas no knitting done!

I’ll see you tomorrow – hopefully I’ll be a bit more prepared, haha!

A NEW CROCHET SHAWL

Yes…I am doing lots of about turns as regards my plans and intentions for knitting and crochet this year.

I originally said no more new projects and no more crochet for a while and I have just ignored that completely!

I have 5 balls of Stylecraft Cabaret DK [shade 1095 – Underwater Rainbow] to use up after I unpicked a knitted jumper that I had done about 20cm of and then got bored of.

So, what to do with all this yarn? I didn’t want to cast on another jumper as I am going to finish the orange one I’m doing at the mo and then have a break from big projects like that for a bit. And I have enough scarves, cowls, hats etc.

So, I thought I would do a crochet shawl, as I really like the one I made for myself last year with the same brand of yarn, just in another colour, and also, I can crochet WAY quicker than knit. So, even though a shawl can be quite a ‘big’ project, it really won’t be as it won’t take that long to do!

I LOVE the colours of this yarn…very autumnal!

It’s a simple Granny Square pattern that I dont even have to think about as I’m doing it and it is from a book called ‘Shabby Chic Crochet’ published by MakerCo and designed by Agnieszka Strycharska.

The last shawl I made used 4 balls of yarn and is just the right size…so I will have one ball leftover to make something else…I don’t know what yet though!

Granny Square Stash-Buster

So, after me saying I wouldn’t cast anything new on anytime soon. After me saying I have no crochet projects planned anytime soon. Here I am with a new crochet granny square blanket.

I looked at the few balls of Christmas yarn I had leftover from last year (and my recently finished jumper) and suddenly on the spur of the moment I decided to crochet a granny square blanket to use up the last bit of my Christmas stash.

So far, so good. It’s DK weight yarn with a 4mm hook, so it’s not super duper fast, but still it’s getting there. If it isn’t that big after I’ve used up all the yarn I have, I will just put it aside and maybe buy some more nearer to Christmas.

I just want the space in my materials and project tub that’s all!!! 🙂
